Day 1

 

Long day today, but a short 8.5 mile ride. Got up at 2AM to get to the airport for our 6 hour flight to San Diego. Plane landed at 10:05 AM Pacific time. Karl was able to figure out how to get us an Uber after about an hour of trying, he is the hero for today. For the next 3 hours we unpacked the bikes and assembled them. It was pretty hot in the parking lot, so Karl and Ed changed into shorts and t-shirts to ride the 4 miles to the beach. The beach was really cold with strong winds coming in from the ocean. Looks like Gene was the smart one with long pants and shirt. Stopped for a sandwhich on the way back to the motel. Sorted out all our gear and packed the bikes till 8PM Pacific time (11PM Eastern time). Tomorrow we start heading east.

Time for some much needed rest! 😌 🚲

 Day 9 Final posting day until further notice. Today we traveled from Columbus, Ohio to Sharpsburg, MD to drop off Karl, then to Brushtown, PA to drop off Gene, and finally to my home in Glen Rock.  We had lunch at the Waffle House in Hagerstown, and hand dipped ice cream for desert at Nutter's in Sharpsburg.  It is our hope that we will be able to return to El Centro in the near future and finish the ride to the Atlantic ocean.

 Day 5 We travelled from El Centro, CA to Flagstaff, Arizona today. That would be quite an accomplishment for 3 old guys, huh? I guess we should explain. Complications have caused us to return home earlier than we had hoped. So, we rented a pickup truck in Imperial, CA yesterday, loaded the bikes and gear into the truck and are heading back to Maryland and Pennsylvania. We will still be posting pictures and experiences along the way until we reach home.  Stopped at Hugh T Osborne Lookout Park to see the sand dunes and watch a few offroad vehicles driving through the dunes. Had a very tasty Cod lunch at Times 3 Family Restaurant in Quartzsite, AZ and dinner at Chick Fil A tonight.  We drove through a snowstorm near Flagstaff, AZ.  We are hoping to finish tomorrow in Albuquerque, NM.
